Tax Partner

Jack’s education includes a BS in Accounting from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania along with an MBA in Finance from St. Louis University. His career includes auditing at Cooper and Lybrand, along with advancing financial leadership positions in several industries ranging from cost accounting manager to CFO of many newspapers of a Fortune 500 company. While a CFO in the newspaper industry, he led the operations team in the selection and installation of a newspaper printing press. Earlier, he was one of the youngest controllers of a steel tubing division of a Fortune 500 company.

The CFO positions required Jack and his family to live in 4 major cities over the 15 years with the newspaper company. Jack was selected to reverse the downward financial skid of the papers that occurred preceding him joining the papers.

In 1995, Jack and his family moved to Detroit to again assist with a newspaper that was financially troubled. However, in 1998, he started Padgett Business Services with Christy Federspiel, EA . Their goal changed to servicing small business and individual clients primarily in Macomb and Oakland counties, also with clients residing in several other states.

Jack has been an Enrolled Agent since 2000, and is a member of the National Association of Enrolled Agents and the Michigan Society of Enrolled Agents, and is licensed by the Department of Treasury to practice before the IRS. In doing so, he represents the interests of clients and their companies in dealing with all IRS issues and concerns.

Jack is also an NTPI Fellow. A National Tax Practice Institute (NTPI) is an educational branch of NAEA. The NTPI Fellow means that the student completed 72 hours of specialized studying in tax debt services and resolution.

He has, also, secured the designation of Accredited Tax Preparer and Accredited Tax Advisor by the Accreditation Council of Accountancy and Taxation, available to those who exemplify proficiency and expertise in tax preparation, along with the additional requirement of increased annual continuing education beyond that required of Enrolled Agents and other tax preparers.

In recent years, Jack has served on the board of the local chapter of the United Way, and has been a distinguished President of the Kiwanis Club. Jack continues to be an avid member of the community of St. Kieran Catholic Church.
